- My next door neighbor has at least three cats. They poop in my front yard and backyard at least everyday; I have visually seen them. I sprinkled "Cat-Be-Gone" in the areas they frequently visited but to no advantage. Is there anything I can do to discourage my yard as being used as a "litter box."

That includes CATS as well as dogs. You do have the legal right to humane trap any cats on your property and turn them into a rescue or shelter. You may want to talk to your neighbor first before resorting to trapping. « less
- I read your response to a woman's question about her 20 month old recently spayed dog's behaviour of nesting in beds and scratching carpet. You answered she was experiencing "false pregnancy" and symptoms should subside over time.
All three of my MALE dogs scratch and nest an area before they lay down for a nap which is normal animal behaviour. Wolves make nests before they claim a spot to lay down.
Also, my dogs occasionally scratch an area in our carpet while rolling around on their backs and at times seem "crazy" about one little spot.
Again, it's normal behaviour and simply means they have found a spot that has sparked their interest by smelling good to them. The craziness on their back is an attempt to roll in the smell.
I would think this woman who posted a question for you will be worried when her dog continues this normal behaviour.

- I have two cats, one female who is around 11 years old and another male that is around 6 months. We have had behavior problems coming from the kitten (Gus) against the older cat (Taffy). Gus chases Taffy and constantly jumps on her and sometimes bites out chunks of her hair. Taffy growls and hisses a lot at Gus, but this doesn't have much of an effect on him. When we hear Taffy crying from Gus attacking her, we lock Gus up in the washroom for a little while, have tried spraying him with a water bottle, and sometimes before I lock him up I get him wet from the faucet. How can we make Gus stop hurting my other cat? All advice is welcomed. Thanks for your time!
Sincerely,
R.M.

- My 13 y.o. female cat has been on medicated Eukanuba low ph/s food for several years now. She had recurring urinary tract infections. The infections have stayed away, but the cat hates the food. Should I keep her on it though? Is this food related or hereditary? I would love to give her something more palatable but don't want more vet bills!

- We adopted a 1-year old shitzu mix from a shelter about 2 months ago. She is very jealous of our cat who roams about while she is crated at night. She will urinate where the cat lays, especially the spot on our bed where the cat sleeps. She also chases and barks at her.

- I own an 8 month old Short, Smooth Haired Miniature Dachshund whom has in the last week or so developed dime sized patches of hair loss. The skin is smooth and not scaly which leads me to believe it may be an allergy. I use a Wal-Mart brand Conditioning Flea and Tick dog shampoo, which I used on my Chiuahaha for a long time. She never seemed to have problems. Also Id like to add my Miniature Dachshund has problems with Dander. Please help me, I hate seeing my adorable pup with bald patches.

Your vet will be able to rule out if ringworm or parasites are the cause, or if allergies are indeed the culprit. Allergy tests can be done to determine what's bothering your dog's skin. You may also want to try an anti-fungal medicated shampoo, which can alleviate many skin problems, especially if the cause is environmental. « less

This usually occurs about 6 weeks after a dog's heat cycle. Even though your dog was spayed a week ago, she likely still has reproductive hormones in her body that are causing her unusual nesting behavior. This should resolve on its on soon, though if the problem persists you should take your dog to the vet. « less
- We have an 8 yr old male mini american eskimo. In the past few months he's been picking used kleenex out of our bathroom garbage can and eating it, and last night when he was outside I saw him eating his poop (which he did once when he was a pup). Why is he doing these things? Is he lacking something? What can we do?

- My neighbor has been making clams that my cat has attacked her and her cat. I am having a hard time believing her, but what I want to know is there anything legally that she could do?
