  1. Hey Arden, it's great to see someone with the knowledge you have, thanks for sharing. I have Slingbox connected to a non-hd tv. The cable wire goes direct to the slingbox with the box hooked up to the router and it works fine. If I was to hook up the Slingbox HD cable to the Slingbox would I get HD programs through my Slingbox? Thanks, Charlie in Boston. - charlie from Boston, MA>

  2. I have added HD programming to my Directv service and have an HD receiver. Currently, I have(2) RG-6 cables coming from my triple LNB dish to a 3x8 multiswitch. The two cable are connected to LNB Input A&B with one of the ouputs going to my HDTV. Directv techs are telling me that I need an additional RG-6 from the dish to the receiver for HD. However, some websites say only one RG-6 is required. Before I spend the whole day running a cable from the roof to my basement, do I really need an additional cable from the dish to the receiver? - Eric from Atlanta, GA
The dish has four outputs that will go into a new 4X8 multiswitch. If you are going to have an HD receiver the H21 then you will only need one cable.    » more

  3. My wife doesn't want the home theater subwoofer visible up front, but to "hide it" behind a chair means routing the cable outside the house and around a corner -- and it needs to be kind of long. Maybe 30 feet. The long cables are expensive. Someone told me I can make my own cable with an RG-something coax and RCA connectors on the end. Is this true? - Edwin from Redwood City, CA

Your subwoofer wiring can be made with any 16 gauge speaker wire with RCA ends added by soldering them on. Or if you use coaxial cable with the f-connectors on the ends you can then screw on RCA adapters to fit into the subwoofer. The ends can be purchased from any electronics supply store. The wiring may also be run underneath the house if you have a crawl space below the room.   « less
  4. I'm doing a commercial install in a Tech college. Bringing DirecTV into the building, but want to convert coax to cat5e, run that to the 4 sat rcvrs and then cat5e from the rcvrs to the HD TV's, each with their own signal from the boxes. Would love to end up with HDMI into TV's but will settle for component if I have to due to expense and depending on which is easier. Thoughts? - John Pigeon from Madison, WI

  5. I have Dish Network. Only one receiver that goes to the TV in the livingroom. How can I get satellite in my master bedroom without buying and paying for another receiver? Lost and in need of help!!! - Melissa from Troutman, NC
I get asked this question all of the time. Dishnetwork has a receiver, the Model 322, that has two tuners that can be fed to two rooms for two TV's.    » more
I get asked this question all of the time. Dishnetwork has a receiver, the Model 322, that has two tuners that can be fed to two rooms for two TV's. That will give you seperate TV viewing on each TV with no additional monthly charge for the second TV. This is not HDTV capable. You could split these two tuner outputs to feed more TV's if you like, but they would not have seperate TV channel viewing. Check with Dishnetwork to get this receiver installed.    « less
  6. Hi: First of all thanks for taking the time to answer this my question. I live in a apartment complex & like to watch movies with the volume up high to get the same effects of a theater during late evenings. How can I do this without disturbing the people next to me & above me & below me??, is there a cheap & portable way of doing this, because I move every so often. - Brian from Sunnyvale, ca

Hi Brian, Great Question. I don't know what the size and power is of your speakers and your amp. But the simplest solution to this is to either turn it down late at night or use a good quality set of headphones if you really want to surround yourself with sound. This is a question of being a good neighbor in a close environment. There really is no other way.   « less
  7. I am in the process of building a new house and the company doing the structured wiring is pushing the installation of both a coax (RG-6) cable and a Cat5e cable for all the TV locations. I was told the Cat5e wire was to support HD upgradeability, but I currently have cable (and will continue with cable in the new home) and I'm not utilizing Cat5e wire but yet I can receive HD channels. Will the Cat5e gain me anything in particular in the new house as opposed to running just the coax? - Rob from Evanston, Illinois

Hello Rob, That's a great question. Structured wire is a bundle of cable containing two Quad Shield RG6 Coax and two Cat5e wires. Cat5e wire can be used for many things. It can be used for voice or data. It can also be used for HD component signals with the use of signal converters at each end. It can also be used to conduct an analog or digital audio signal from room to room. Another use of it is for control signals to control equipment with a remote extender if an RF remote doesn't have the power to transmit as far as needed. Because of this versatility I would recommend having it installed for unexpected future uses.    « less
  8. Hi Arden, I am located in Nipomo, CA. The three hdtv stations I would like to receive (according to antennaweb.org) are a CBS affiliate 97° and 20 miles (yellow), NBC station 123° 46 miles (yellow), and NBC station 328° 25 miles (red). I have an omni Winegard MS2000 antenna that I would like to use with my triple LNB Directv dish (single-line coax run). I would like to know if this will work: A Winegard DP-3020 voltage regulating diplexer at the MS2000 antenna which passes the voltage from the Directv receiver and a diplexer on the other end which passes DC from the satellite receiver and has a DC block for the hdtv tuner. I have a small unamplified AntennaDirect DB2, and it picks up each station fine when pointed directly. I am sinply trying to get an antenna setup without having to use a rotor. Thanks! - CB from Nipomo, California
