  1. Hello, I have an HDTV with an internal ATHC tuner. I want to use my basic cable and an OTA antenna fo HD. Would it be possible connect the antenna to the coax input and have a cable box connected to either the RCA or component inputs. Would this work? - Mike from Newport News, VA
Yes, That would work just fine.

  2. I just moved into a new house and due to the layout of the family room, it is necessary that I purchase a new TV probably in the 32" to 42" range. I am currently receiving the "analog" cable from my local provider (We didn't pay extra for digital yet, let alone HD). However, since we could easily upgrade our service to HD and given that HDTVs are so readily available our plan is to purchase an HDTV and just hook it up like our old analog one until we upgrade our service. Will this work? For example, if I buy an HDTV on Sunday, bring it home and just hook it up to the Coax from my cable provider will I be able to get it to work (even in analog) for the games on Monday? Or do I need to buy some cables and/or get my cable service upgraded before I can use the HDTV for anything? I assume I can hook up the way I proposed but don't need a nasty surprise after stores are closed and I'm still trying to set it up. - T. A. from Indianapolis, IN

  3. My Direct TV system works fine, but I have a problem with "off air in"connection. I connected a CATV signal to this connector, thinking that my TV would operate on Cable if the TV channel were moved from the normal (ch 4). I get a blue screen and no CATV signal on the other channels. I had thought that there was a switcher built into the Direct TV Controller, but apparently not. How can this be accomplished without running another piece of coax to the TV? Any help will be greatly appreciated. - Anonymous from Blacksburg, Va.
Yu must run your cable TV cable to the TV not the satellite receiver. The antenna input on the satellite receiver is only for antenna in.

  4. Hi! I was looking into buying a philips 23 inch HD lcd tv for my bedroom.I have regular dish network receiver. The TV doesnt have an ATCS input. Do i really need ATSC input to get over the air HD programs(local channels) or can I just hook up an antenna to the dish network receiver to get the local HD content on that TV. - Anonymous from detroit , michigan
You either need to have an ATSC tuner in your TV or you need to have an Dishnetwork HDTV receiver and the proper dish to go with it.

  5. I recently purchased a Samsung 40" LCD HDTV. Service is provided via a Comcast STB DVR using a HDMI cable. After a few days of operating the unit, I have had the video from the STB get scrambled a couple of times. Turning the STB on and off does not clear the problem. I can view the channel Guide clearly, but the picture is scrambled. The analog signal to the HDTV looks fine when run directly to the HDTV. The only way I can get the picture back is to unplug the STB. When power is restored, all works again. The cable is fed to the STB and HDTV via a two-way splitter. What could be the problem? - Switz from Granger, Indiana

  6. Arden, Happy New Year. We got an Olevia LCD TV and Comcast (Motorola dual tuner) HD DVR this week and finally seem to have everything correctly set up. However, every time the TV's power is turned off and back on the screen shows only white noise and to get programming the HDMI cable has to be unplugged and plugged again or the cable box power cycled. Olevia support says this is happening because the TV loses the HDCP authorization when it loses power and does not have the ability to request it again. Do you know of any way to correct/work around this issue? Thanks! - Bill from Mountain View, CA

  7. I bought an off air HD antenna. It works good except I can't get KRON, channel 11. I have pointed the antenna in the right direction and get other stations with the same compass direction as KRON. Is it the antenna , or something else? - Mike from Santa Clara, ca

You are probably in a null location for that frequency. Try moving the antenna to the right or left a few feet from where it is, if you can without falling off the roof. You will probably be able to get it then, unless there are major trees or buildings in the line of sight. It is out there! Keep trying!   « less

  9. Hi, I recently purchased DirectTV satellite service with two HD tuners for two separate TVs. The installer told me that you cannot split a digital signal so any splitters in the coax would cause a line not to work. This would mean any additional tv runs would have to originate at the LNB and run all the way to the house. I am thinking about upgrading to the HD/DVR receiver for one tv. Reading the DirectTV website it looks HD/DVR needs two seperate coax feeds (one for each tuner). Is there a way to split the signal of the cable that is already running to the tv or will I have to run another line all the way from the LNB? - Chris from Atlanta, GA

  10. Hi Arden, Can you point me in the direction of a listing of OTA HDTV channels in the bay areas? I have a roommate who is looking into getting a new set and is wanting to shy away from the expense of DirecTV, Dish or Comcast. Thanks, Shawn - Shawn from San Francisco
